Teddy’s Chocolate Cake
For Valentine’s Day, my mom makes a heart-shaped chocolate cake with chocolate pudding in the middle. The pudding gives it a little something extra. My mom's cake is why Kacey gives Grandma a heart-shaped chocolate cake in Rosie and Teddy. With Valentine’s Day drawing near, I decided to make a heart-shaped chocolate cake. Last night, I had some friends coming over for dinner and games. I thought the cake would make a great addition to our evening.
I pulled out my Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook, all the ingredients, and a big mixing bowl. Then, I put on a movie to watch while I baked.
I was mixing the wet ingredients when I realized I couldn’t hear what was happening in the movie. I left the kitchen counter, just for a moment, to find the remote and turn up the volume. Then, I hear a little lick, lick, lick. I look over to see my cat Charlie on the counter with his head in the bowl, displaying the type of behavior that would make Teddy proud.
I shoo Charlie off the table and continue to make the cake. Now that I think about it, I failed to inform Jake and Bri that we were eating a cat-tainted cake. Sorry, but Charlie liked the cake as much as you did.
After I finished mixing the cake, I put it in the oven. While the cake was baking, I started on the chocolate pudding. I thought I followed the directions exactly, but I must have done something wrong because my chocolate pudding came out a little soupy and not so thick, even after cooling for a few hours.
I decorated the cake with chocolate frosting, that red sparkly gel frosting, red and white sprinkles, and a teddy bear balloon weight just for fun. When it was time to serve the cake, we drizzled the soupy chocolate pudding over the top of each slice since it was too runny to be used as a filling. Sometimes, you have to get creative with dessert.
